On the spot fines for not wearing a seat belt and being caught driving while using a mobile phone work. These are two driving restrictions that are being abused greatly here in Romania.
If a driver is not able to pay the on the spot fine the car is impounded.
If that was the case people would be forced to wear a seat belt and not use their mobile for texting or conversion while driving.
Romania would be a safer place to drive.
Classic example of the kind of nuts that we have on our roads.
Today a good friend of mine stopped at a pedestrian crossing to allow two old women to cross. Another car approached her from behind and stopped. To her amazement a van then approached and passed out the two cars almost knocking over the two women on the crossing. There was not a Police Car in sight. Who allows drivers like these on the road to endanger not only our lives but other drivers as well. Automarket we need a road safety campaign. Got any ideas?
In Romania in general most of the Police Checks are for speed and nothing else. I have lived here for a number of years and on the roads its every man or woman for themselves. The number of drivers for a start that don't wear a seat belt, its pure madness and in particular the number of unbelted children especially in the front seat, its so widespread. Single white lines for some drivers don't even exist and as for care and attention for their fellow road users, forget it. The Government don't appear to have any road safety plan in place. In Romania drivers should expect the unexpected. Death appears on the Roads on a Daily Basis as reported on your many TV Stations. When will Romanians put Road Safety first. God only knows the answer to that.
